- EARTH CENTERED: an Immanent frame of reference recognizing the Devine Creative Source as being
present within all things. Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Animals, etc. Believing that
divinity is made manifest in nature, there-by honoring the Earth itself as well
as all of Her beings as Sacred
- PAGAN: derives
from the Latin (paganus) meaning simply peasant or country dweller. Any person
whose livelihood depends on agriculture might be referred to as Pagan. This term
has been reclaimed and is also now commonly used to describe any person whose
spiritual path is one which may include social customs and traditions that
pre-date modern Christian practice. Such people have also been referred to as,
"Heathen" = Actual meaning- One who dwells on the Heath. “Where the heather
grows”
- OCCULT: that
which is hidden. Commonly confused with the term “A CULT”. Any information,
which is “hidden” from the mainstream public, can be easily confused with
misdoing and labeled as potentially “Evil”.
- RITUAL/RITE: A
series of meaningful, routinely repeated actions performed to signal the
subconscious there-by bringing about a desired psychological shift/reaction. Fans at sporting events will perform bazaar rituals to ensure a winning play. The ritualistic act of driving to a familiar destination can lull us into a
meditative state. Leaving us wondering how we got there since we have little
memory of the trip. Rituals can trigger long forgotten memories. And also serve
as a tool to heal past trauma and depression.
- Rites of Passage
are often accompanied by familiar rituals. Such as blowing out birthday candles,
or carrying the Bride over the threshold. Even pinning the corsage on a Prom
date, or placing a lost tooth under a pillow. Religious Rituals signal that we
are no longer in a mundane setting. This is a special occasion filled with
meaning.
- WITCH: Another
reclaimed title, derives from the Anglo Saxon/Old English (wicca-masculine) or (wicce-feminine)
pronounced "wee-cha" meaning to bend or twist. Used to define anyone, male and
female, who study and practice the Arts and Sciences of Witchcraft. Including,
but not limited to; Herbal Lore, Holistic Medicine, Midwifery, Astrology and
Astronomy, Psychology and Faith Healing, Geology, Chemistry and Alchemy,
Biology, Divination, Mathematics, and the list goes on. Such "Occult" (hidden)
knowledge that is now commonly taught to modern grade school aged children was
once considered a burning offense.
- NOTE: The term
“Warlock” is never used to define a male Witch. This is a misconception.
If someone refers to himself as a Warlock, simply turn and walk away. He doesn’t
know what he’s talking about.
We sincerely hope
that by defining some of these commonly misunderstood terms that we have helped
to shed some light and bridge communication.
